Steve Sherick, MD, FACEP

Founder and CEO

Born and raised in rural Colorado, Steve is passionate about elevating the quality of care in emergency departments, regardless of their size or location. Steve brings a life-long commitment to community service in the Centennial State and beyond. Offering a unique set of skills and experience to his hospitals—from leadership and policy development with some of the nation’s top medical associations, to cutting-edge knowledge of acute care practices and positive patient engagement, Steve’s passion for medicine inspires Innova’s team and lays the foundation for successful partnerships.

Ashley Williams, MBA

President/Chief Operations Officer

Ashley started with Innova in 2014 and loves being part of such an incredible team. She graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder majoring in Biology and minoring in Biochemistry. She obtained her Master of Business Administration from Portland State University and has over a decade of strategic and operational experience in the healthcare industry. She oversees all corporate operations, doing everything from negotiating partner, payer, and vendor contracts to pulling weeds at Innova’s crash pads. The majority of her time is spent spearheading the development and implementation of effective growth strategies and making sure Innova’s processes are as effective and efficient as possible. Her passions include rock-climbing, philanthropy, and spending time with her two young boys.

Ashley Williams, MBA

Laura Edgerley-Gibb, MD, FACEP

Chief Medical Officer

Laura earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado and her Doctor of Medicine from Stanford University. She completed residency at the Stanford/Kaiser Emergency Medicine Residency and is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. In 2014, she was awarded Fellowship in the American College of Emergency Physicians. She has been with Innova Emergency Medical Associates since 2011. Laura works clinically at all Innova sites and, as Chief Medical Officer, helps to craft medical policies and procedures for the company and our partner hospitals. She has several years of experience as a medical director prior to becoming CMO. Laura has a special interest in Quality/Performance Improvement. She has served as a Site Trauma Director and has experience assisting partner organizations with developing trauma programs and achieving state trauma designation. When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her three daughters and husband and enjoying all of the outdoor beauty of Colorado.

Dani McGee

Business Manager

Dani joined Innova Emergency Medical Associates in 2014. She earned her BBA at the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business in 2010 and is currently working on her MBA through the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business. Prior to joining Innova, Dani worked in sales in a variety of industries, but has been in the healthcare realm since 2012. Her role as Business Manager includes management of all things Human Resources including onboarding, credentialing, and benefits. In addition, she has a hand in accounting, staffing, and everyday operational functions. She enjoys working with Innova because of the challenging nature of her role and the teamwork approach to overcoming challenges. When she’s not working or studying, she enjoys completing DIY projects and spending time with her husband and Bernese Mountain Dog.

Assistant Business Manager

Jacob started with Innova in 2017 after moving to Denver from Columbus, Ohio. He earned his BBA from the Max M. Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University in 2014. Prior to starting with Innova, Jacob worked in healthcare administration since his graduation in 2014. His position as Assistant Business Manager includes ensuring that Innova is able to accommodate the most favorable schedule possible for every one of its providers. Additionally, he spearheads billing deficiencies at many of Innova's sites; as well as various other administrative tasks vital to the day-to-day functionality of the company. He enjoys working with Innova because of how driven every person in the company is toward achieving their goals, both personally and professionally. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, watching Ohio State football, and exploring the outdoors.

Administrative Assistant

Shannon received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Project Management. Her background includes experience in both office management and account management roles. She brings twenty years of experience working with and resolving issues with employees, customers, and teams of all levels and backgrounds. She prides herself in delivering a high level of professionalism and customer service to both internal and external customers and is thrilled to play a role in a company such as Innova, helping bring critical services to rural communities. In her spare time, Shannon enjoys hiking, yoga, and home design.

John Ashurst, DO

Residency Director for KRMC

Since joining Innova Emergency Medical Associates in 2016, John has served as the program director for the emergency medicine residency at Kingman Regional Medical Center. Prior to his current employment, he completed his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and his residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network. During residency he earned a Clinical Master of Science from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and now serves on the board of directors for the Foundation for Osteopathic Emergency Medicine.

John Ashurst, DO

Peter Byers, MD

Regional Medical Director

Peter joined Innova Emergency Medical Associates in 2015. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine with a focus on Leadership in Medicine for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations. Following completion of emergency medicine residency training at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, he worked in urban and rural hospitals in New Mexico. He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served as a teacher in Cameroon, and has traveled and worked extensively in Africa. He is currently the Emergency Department Medical Director at Aspirus-Iron River Hospital, as well as Innova’s Regional Medical Director for northern Michigan. His interests include cooking, skiing, and tropical travel.

KRMC Medical Director

Adam is an Arizona native who attended medical school at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona where in addition to his studies, he did genetics research and worked in a local emergency department. He and his wife, Allyssa, have 5 children and a love for pretty much anything, but especially anything outdoors. In the field of emergency medicine, he especially enjoys trauma services. He is an Eagle Scout who enjoys being active in the community and finds himself thrilled to be a part of Innova and a part of Kingman, Arizona.

T.R. Eckler, MD

MSRH Medical Director

T.R. completed medical school at the University of Rochester SOMD in Rochester, NY in 2012. During that time, he also completed the Government Relations Advocacy Fellowship with the American Medical Association in Washington, D.C. from July 2009–June 2010. After earning his Doctorate of Medicine, he completed his residency in emergency medicine at Mt. Sinai St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital in New York City with a focus in EMS and Disaster Medicine. Immediately after residency Dr. Eckler joined Innova and has worked here ever since. He is currently the Emergency Department Medical Director at Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad, Colorado and remains interested in EMS, Disaster Medicine, Ultrasound, and providing the highest quality emergency care to the rural places served by Innova. Outside of work he appreciates a day off spent skiing, hiking, training for an Ironman, or cooking for his wife and son.

Aspirus Iron River Medical Director

Kristin joined Innova Emergency Medical Associates in 2017. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Northwestern University - Feinberg School of Medicine, and completed her residency training at the Stanford/Kaiser Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She served as a chief resident, and also completed a fellowship in Academic Emergency Medicine at Stanford University. She has worked clinically in multiple settings, and is proud to serve a rural community as the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in Iron River, MI. In her spare time, she enjoys time with her family, travel, books, museums, and the outdoors.

Megan Koenig, DO

SLVH Medical Director

Megan joined Innova Emergency Medical Associates in 2015. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and her MBA in Healthcare Leadership from Rockhurst University. She completed her emergency medicine residency training in Chicago at Midwestern University/Cook County Trauma. Megan has worked at a variety of hospitals from Level I Trauma Centers to rural critical access facilities. She has also participated in a variety of leadership positions from residency faculty to National ACOEP Board of Directors. She is currently the Emergency Department Medical Director of San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center. She is most proud of her little family comprised of two toddler girls and her very supportive husband, who is a surgeon in the Air Force.

Megan Koenig, DO

Preston Maxim, MD

GRMC Medical Director

Preston joined Innova Emergency Medical Associates in 2016. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine. He did a transitional internship at Harvard/Cambridge Hospital then completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Boston Medical Center in 1999. He was chief resident in his final year. Prior to joining Innova, he was an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and worked at San Francisco General Hospital for 15 years, where he focused on providing comprehensive medical care to underserved urban populations, as well as researching and refining the early resuscitation and management of traumatic and orthopedic injuries. He was also a very active clinician-educator and received multiple bedside and clinical teaching awards from the UCSF Emergency Medicine residency, as well as serving as the Medical Director of the San Francisco Paramedics Association. He then worked for 2 years for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, before joining Innova. He is currently the Emergency Department Medical Director at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, New Mexico.

Preston Maxim, MD

Rachel Weinzimmer, PA-C

CO Lead Allied Health Provider

Rachel joined Innova in 2016 and currently serves as the Colorado Lead AHP. She graduated in the top of her class and received the “Most Outstanding Physician Assistant Student” award from the University of St. Francis along with her masters and PA degree. Before joining Innova, she worked at an urban level II trauma center in Colorado and also has more than 10 years of experience in the EMS field. Outside of work, she is very active at both the state and national level with the Colorado Academy of PAs and the American Academy of PAs holding numerous elected and appointed positions. Combining her love for the outdoors and medicine, Rachel volunteers as an ALS provider on Monarch ski patrol and her local search and rescue group.
